The Nordtvedt effect in the Trojan asteroids
نویسنده
چکیده
Bounds to the Nordtvedt parameter are obtained from the motion of the first twelve Trojan asteroids in the period 1906-1990. From the analysis performed, we derive a value for the inverse of the Saturn mass 3497.80±0.81 and the Nordtvedt parameter -0.56±0.48, from a simultaneous solution for all asteroids.

The 3-4 Μm Spectra of Jupiter Trojan Asteroids
To date, reflectance spectra of Jupiter Trojan asteroids have revealed no distinctive absorption features. For this reason, the surface composition of these objects remains a subject of speculation. Spectra have revealed, however, that the Jupiter Trojan asteroids consist of two distinct sub-populations which differ in the optical to near-infrared colors. The origins and compositional differenc...
متن کاملFraction of Contact Binary Trojan Asteroids
We present the results of an optical lightcurve survey of 114 Jovian Trojan asteroids conducted to determine the fraction of contact binaries. Sparse-sampling was used to assess the photometric range of the asteroids and those showing the largest ranges were targeted for detailed follow-up observations. This survey led to the discovery of two Trojan asteroids, (17365) and (29314) displaying lar...
متن کاملOrigin and Evolution of Trojan Asteroids
The regions around the L4 and L5 Lagrangian points of Jupiter are populated by two large swarms of asteroids called the Trojans. They may be as numerous as the main-belt asteroids and their dynamics is peculiar, involving a 1:1 resonance with Jupiter. Their origin probably dates back to the formation of Jupiter: the Trojan precursors were planetesimals orbiting close to the growing planet. Diff...
متن کاملOn the stability of the Trojan asteroids
We reconsider the problem of stability of the triangular Lagrangian equilibria of the restricted problem of three bodies. We consider in particular the Sun–Jupiter model and the Trojan asteroids in the neighbourhood of the point L4. In the spirit of Nekhoroshev’s theory on stability over exponentially large times, we are able to prove that stability over the age of the universe is guaranteed on ...
متن کاملDetection of inner Solar System Trojan Asteroids by Gaia
The Gaia satellite, planned for launch by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2013, is the next generation astrometry mission following Hipparcos. While mapping the whole sky, the Gaia space mission is expected to discover thousands of Solar System Objects. These will include Near-Earth Asteroids and serve with ground-based telescopes. We present the results of simulations for the detection of T...
